Miami Design District
Brown Jordan's flagship showroom is an architectural gem, defining the gateway to the Miami Design District. Amicon coordinated a local team, sourcing and repurposing local materials and developing one of the most architecturally significant and recognizable projects in the city.
When a local development group contacted Amicon, their goal was simple in its request and complex in its execution requirements – construct a one-of-a-kind building on one of the smallest buildable sites in Miami, bordered closely by the I-195 overpass and the FEC train tracks. Upping the ante – the team wanted the project to feel very representative of the local neighborhood. Everything from the native landscape materials, natural Florida keystone and (very) locally sourced Dade county pine used for most of the interior wood finishes was used to execute the contemporary, Florida design.
Collaborating with award winning, Miami-based Touzet Studios, Amicon coordinated carefully with the design team, the development group led by Chariff Realty and ultimately with the tenant and end user, outdoor furniture manufacturer, Brown Jordan.
Amicon was selected as the general contractor and constructed the building along with the Brown Jordan interiors buildout.
In addition to the strategic complications of building on a tiny, infill urban lot adjacent to a highway, the project included additional complexities such as custom precast, Ductal paneling on the exterior, 18’ ceiling heights, an insulated roof deck showroom area with stunning 360 degree city views.
As an environmentally sensitive firm, Amicon prides itself on repurposing local materials wherever possible. Using our local relationships, we were able to source and remove thousands of feet of 100-year-old Dade county pine which was found in a nearby building ready to be demolished. All of the material was carefully curated and was used to construct the ceilings, floors, handrails and reception desk.
The Brown Jordan building in the Design District is visible proof what can be possible when world class design is carefully planned and executed. Dedicated local, Miami firms took great pride in collaborating successfully to ensure that the local neighborhood was enhanced and local materials were repurposed and represented.
